Joining this summer school was my first time abroad. I wanted to improve my Japanese. Gifu University is a really good university. I enjoyed various programs offered by the university. It was nice that students were placed in a Japanese class appropriate to each level. I was able to study at the right level for me. We studied Japanese in the morning and experienced culture activities in the afternoon. I had plenty of time to enjoy my university life. The best program of the summer school was the homestay. I was very nervous at first, but thanks to my friendly host family, I had a great time. That was truly like a dream.
The summer school started a month before, and now it is nearly the end. It was short but really fun to live together with everyone. My teachers, classmates and tutors were very nice. I made a lot of wonderful memories.
I enjoyed living in the dorm. We had a takoyaki party, tried hot pot, and prepared other delicious dishes by ourselves. The tutors helped us a lot.
The month at the summer school has been an unforgettable experience. When I come back to Japan next time, I hope to visit Gifu University. I would like to see the teachers and eat at the university dining hall.
I had great fun with students from various countries at the summer school. It was only a month but I will never forget activities we have done together. The initial awkwardness has disappeared, and we have become close friends. I am sad that we soon have to be apart from each other. Without this summer school, I would not have had a chance to talk to people from China, Malaysia, Australia and the U.S. We talked about ways of thinking in our countries, experienced Japanese culture, prepared and had meals together, and played games. I had a really good time.
The most fun I had during the summer school was the Gujo program. We went to Gujo Hachiman, where we first visited an elementary school. The students were very cute. We then participated in a tea ceremony and a food replica workshop and played Japanese drums. The scenery in Gujo was amazing.
We stayed at host families for three nights. My host family was so nice. We went to Gujo Castle and saw Gujo dancing together. River water in Gujo was really cold. We also had a barbeque and did fireworks at night. These were the most fun times I had during the summer school.
Ukai (cormorant fishing) and sumo wrestling were also interesting. It was a great opportunity for us who had never seen them before.
I will definitely miss the summer school and everyone there. I will come back to Japan again.
