Summer school participants all lived in a student residence called Gakugaiken, along with the tutors. We did numerous things together, from having barbecues to doing homework. Having the tutors there was a great relief, because they took very good care of us. Occasionally the tutors took us to places of interest. We went on an excursion to Nagoya, for instance. At the residence we became somewhat like a family, teasing each other and exchanging jokes. Fights were rare, though, because we tried to be as tolerant towards one another as possible. The Gakugaiken family was therefore much more peaceful than my real family in Sweden.
I am appreciative that the tutors were very helpful, provided ample opportunities for us to speak and listen to Japanese, and had fun with us on many occasions.
