Somehow I don't feel like going back to my home country. Visiting Japan had always been my dream, and that dream has come true this summer. Japan is the most interesting and exciting of all the countries I have ever visited. The Japanese lifestyle is interesting and Japanese people are kind. At the beginning of my stay in Japan, I thought it was too hot, but I soon got used to the hot weather.
Since I came to Japan, I have experienced various exciting and unique things, but I was always amazed that things were exactly as I had imagined — especially, the countryside — mists rising from a forested mountain, when you follow a path near a mountain, you suddenly come across a torii Shinto shrine gate and footsteps leading to a beautiful shrine located on the mountainside.
This was my first visit to Japan, so in the beginning I was really worried and nervous. But I had a very good time in Japan. During the summer school program, I did a lot of things and didn’t have many problems. One day, I went to a beauty parlor and had my hair dyed, but I was surprised to see my hair had turned yellow. That was probably because I don’t have deep dark hair like Japanese people. Then I had to go to the beauty parlor again the next day to have the whole of my hair redyed. Although my hair turned yellow, I didn’t get angry, because the service in the beauty parlor in Japan was much better than in Sweden
I participated in many enjoyable and exciting activities during my homestay. My happiest memory was talking with my host family and their friends and enjoying delicious food. In the beginning I was very nervous, but they were very kind to me, so I had a very good time.
I participated in Gifu University Summer School this year and I will never forget my life here in Japan. I worried about how we would get along with Japanese and Swedish people we had never met. However, when we were greeted with the words, "Welcome to Gifu," by Japanese tutors and Swedish students who had arrived in Gifu one month earlier, I was moved. When we first met, we felt like old friends. Then my life in Japan began. People from all three countries interacted with one another. It was fun and a new experience to taste one another's local dishes when eating supper back at Gakugaiken, the accommodation facility for participating students. Our life here in Japan was filled with laughter.
