1. Admission Policy (Selection of Candidates)

The Purpose of Education and Research
The United Graduate School of Drug Discovery and Medical Information Sciences conducts interdisciplinary education and research on the theme of drug discovery, mainly in the fields of advanced biology and life science, to train human resources capable of working in the most advanced fields that lead the 21st centuryfs medicine, health care and life science, with high levels of specialization, foresight and mental flexibility.
We Seek Students who are:
  • Highly motivated toward acquiring advanced specialized knowledge and pursuing specialized research for drug discovery;
  • Highly motivated toward acquiring advanced specialized knowledge and pursuing research necessary for safe and reliable medical care; and
  • Highly motivated toward exploring new practical research fields necessary for developing personalized medical care.

  • * Additional candidates may be accepted under special circumstances.
  • *1: gRecurrent adult studentsh refers to those who have a full-time occupation and continue to hold that occupation after being admitted to the United Graduate School.
  • *2: gForeign studentsh refers to those who have a foreign nationality and are authorized to reside in Japan in the capacity of ryugakusei to study in the United Graduate School. The same definition applies to the term gforeign student(s)h used below.

3. Eligibility for Application

Those who fulfill any of the following conditions, or are expected to do so by March 2011, are eligible to apply for selective admission to the United Graduate School:

  • (1) Holder of masterfs degree or professional degree
  • (2) Holder of academic degree conferred in a foreign country that is equivalent to a masterfs degree or professional degree in Japan
  • (3) Holder of an academic degree that is equivalent to a masterfs degree or professional degree in Japan and that was conferred upon completion in Japan of a correspondence course offered by a foreign academic establishment
  • (4) Holder of an academic degree that is equivalent to a masterfs degree or professional degree in Japan and that is conferred upon completion of an applicable curriculum in an academic establishment located in Japan and accredited under the school education system of a foreign country as having the required postgraduate curricula of the same country and separately recognized as such by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of Japan
  • (5) Those designated by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of Japan (Ministry of Education Notice No. 118, 1989)
    Ministry of Education Notice No. 118 (summary) partially revised on March 30, 2001: Those who have engaged in research for a period of two years or longer at a university, research institute or the like upon graduation from a university (undergraduate program), upon completing 16 years of formal school education in a foreign country, or upon completion in Japan of a correspondence course(s) offered by a foreign academic establishment and recognized as equivalent to 16 years of formal school education in the foreign country; and who are considered to have academic competence equivalent or superior to that of a masterfs degree holder, in recognition of their research achievements in the university or research institute
  • (6) Those who are 24 years of age or older, or will be 24 years of age by April 1, 2009, and who are acknowledged by the United Graduate School, through individual examination of eligibility, to have academic competence equivalent or superior to that of a masterfs degree holder
    Candidates who may be considered for the above qualification include graduates of junior college, higher specialized school, vocational school, other types of school, branch school of a foreign university located in Japan, foreign-accredited schools and the like, who are acknowledged by the United Graduate School, through individual examination of eligibility, to have academic competence equivalent or superior to that of a masterfs degree holder

4. Application Period

Application documents submitted personally by candidates are accepted from Monday, January 17 to Thursday, to January 20, 2011 (both dates inclusive), from 9:00 to 17:00. Application documents submitted by mail must reach the address below no later than Thursday, January 20, 2011.

  • NB: Application documents submitted by mail must be sent as simplified registered mail (kanfi kakitome), with gApplication Documents Enclosedh indicated in red on the front left side of the envelope.

5. Selection of Candidates

Candidates selection will be based on the combined results of academic examination and interview (including examination of documents, such as certificates of academic results, application approval, abstract of masterfs dissertation, research plan [proposal], statement of research achievements [recurrent adult students only]).

English Specialized subject (essay) Interview In the interview, candidates will answer questions regarding their desired field of research, masterfs dissertation (in connection with the proposed research subject), and proposed research plan.
Recurrent adult student candidates will answer questions regarding their masterfs dissertation, statement of research achievements, proposed research plan etc.

NB: On the day of the examination, candidates must present their examineefs card.

7. Announcement of Results

Noon, Wednesday, February 9, 2011

The examinee numbers of successful candidates will be posted in the entrance hall of the Research Building of the Department of Nursing, Faculty of Medicine, Gifu University. Successful candidates will also be notified of the results by mail. Documents relating to admission formalities will be sent in late January 2011.
