Investigating Lifestyle-Related Diseases Using Embryological Engineering Techniques

The wish to remain healthy and avoid the suffering of sickness, as well as the desire to understand the physiological functions of life are the forces behind the development of today's medical and life science research. However, the mysteries of life science are enormously vast, and there are many conundrums yet left to solve. Animal experimentation that has supported this life science research has also diversified, and a high level of expertise is now required. In order to address these difficult questions, I use embryological engineering techniques such as creating genetically modified animals (i.e. transgenic and knockout mice), differentiating specialized tissue from embryonic stem cells in order to research these topics. In addition, I have used molecular biology research techniques to conduct research on brown adipose tissue, to promote pharmacological research in individual organisms, to study the intercellular signaling pathways and mechanisms of transcription and translation in cultured cells, and to create new cell lines. It is my hope that the results of this research will be applicable to research on lifestyle-related diseases (obesity, diabetes, cancer).
