Center Chief,
Life Sciences Research Center

Kunitomo Watanabe
@ The Life Sciences Research Center was established with the aim of providing cutting-edge education as well as creating a research support framework across the fields of Genome Biologyand Regenerative Medicine, as well as the changing new fields of Infection, Nanotechnology, Food Production, and Environmental Science. It was created through departmental decree ordering the organic integration of the following 5 Centers and Facilities: the Genomic Research Facilities, the Instrumental Analysis Center, the Animal Experiment Facilities attached to the medical school, and the Anaerobe Research Facilities, as well as the on-campus Radioisotope Joint Research Facilities. The resulting Life Sciences Research Center is divided into the Division of Genomics Research, the Division of Anaerobe Research, the Division of Animal Experimentation, and the Division of Instrumental Analysis. The Radioisotope Joint Research Facilities have been absorbed by the Division of Genomics Research.

Thanks to increased efficiency and precision due to the joint utilization of equipment, this new Center should promote improvements in research infrastructure in order to aide multidisciplinary problem solving in scientific research. The thought is that while measuring these enhancements, the Center should simultaneously serve as a place that stimulates interaction among students and staff to promote the exchange of knowledge and know-how. With the organic coordination among research groups utilizing the Center, there should be active acceleration of joint projects as the Center becomes a hub of collaborative research within the university. It may also prove to function as a collaborative research hub through the joint usage of on- and off-campus facilities. In order to make the Center more accessible to venture businesses, we aim to upgrade the environment and facilities. By fostering advanced venture businesses, and promoting cooperation between businesses and universities, we hope to strengthen our connection to society.
