The Japanese Government (Monbukagakusho) Scholarship program was established to promote an acceptance of international students from all over the world.
1.Three ways to recruit and select the candidates
1-1.Application from outside Japan
There are two processes for Japanese Government Scholarship if you apply from abroad. One is applying to a Japanese embassy (on consulate general, depending on the country) and the other is applying through Gifu University.
(1)Embassy Recommendation
Scholarship Types: Undergraduate students, Japanese studies students, Research
students, Teacher training students
Inquiries: Contact a Japanese embassy or consulate general in your country.
Time of Visit to Japan: During the period between the 1st and the 7th of April or October
(2)Gifu University Recommendation
Gifu University recommends to the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (Monbukagakusho) a certain number of exceptionally good students. The MEXT (Monbukagakusho) makes the final selection of the scholarship recipients. You must be a student from a university or a research institute under the student exchange agreement with Gifu University, or a student from an institution which has interacted with our faculty through a joint research project or the like.
Scholarship Types: Research students, Japanese studies students
Inquiries: Contact the administrative office at the faculty which you whish to enter.
Time of Visit to Japan: During the period between the 1st and the 7th of October
Recruitment by Gifu University: around the end of December
1-2.Domestic Selection (for self-supported students already enrolled in Gifu University)
Gifu University recommends privately financed international students possessing excellent academic and personal records. The students are nominated by the University selection committee. The MEXT makes the final selection.
You must be a current graduate student, a prospective graduate student, or a prospective fourth graduate undergraduate student (a prospective six grade undergraduate student in the Medicine Program or Veterinary Medicine Program).
The domestic selection is aimed at the international students who have already enrolled in Gifu University.

* For students who
study/research in a designated region will be provided an additional stipend
monthly of 2,000 yen or 3,000 yen.

(2)Tuition
Tuition for Gifu University is waived.
(3)Travel allowance
Roundtrip fare (air ticket) is provided.
