Scholarship & Financial Aids

ˇČAn investment in education is an investment for the future!ˇÉ

We offer a range of scholarships and financial aid schemes to ensure that every deserving student could finish their study without much financial difficulties. And for those who are planning to further their studies in the post-graduate levels, teaching assistantship (TA) and research assistantship (RA), which are able to cover a big part of the tuition fees and living expenses, are also available for qualifying graduate students.

Japanese Government Scholarships (Monbukagakusho Scholarships)

In promoting the "300,000 International Students Plan", these scholarships are provided by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT, Monbukagakusho) . The monthly stipend is 152,000-155,000 yen for graduate students, and 125,000 yen for undergraduate students. Moreover, the scholarship students are exempted from all fees. The period of provision is up to 2 or 5 years, including Japanese language education, for graduate or undergraduate students, respectively.
To be selected as a Japanese government scholarship student, you must follow one of the following procedures. Since the number of students accepted for the third case (c) is quite limited, you should take the first (a) or second (b) opportunity before coming to Japan. Please note that, however, you cannot apply these two at the same time.

(a) Embassy Recommendation.

Applications are made through the Japanese embassy or consulate overseas in cooperation with the local government. Recruitment is made once a year in March/April. You should check with the Japanese embassy in your country since recruiting schedules and methods differ from one country to another.

(b) University Recommendation.

Based on the international academic exchange agreements, our university recommends a certain number of excellent international students, who are scheduled to enroll in our university and need scholarship, to the MEXT. The potential students should contact our Student Affairs Division for details of application. The closing date is normally scheduled around January/February. Once the applicant passes the screening selection (mainly based on application form and documents submitted) of our faculty, he/she will be recommended to the university before submitting to the MEXT. The final selection will be made by MEXT.

(c) Domestic Application.

Privately-financed international students already studying in our university who demonstrate excellent academic records and are in need of financial assistance may have an opportunity to apply for the Japanese government scholarship through the recommendation of our university. For current students, please obtain the application form from the Student Affairs Division when the notice of application is put up, which is normally scheduled in November/December. An interview will be conducted in order to choose top three applicants to be recommended to our university.
