Special Scholarship for Doctoral Course Students
Effective from April 1, 2010 In order to promote more students to further their study/research to the highest level (i.e. the Doctoral program), our faculty has set up a "special scholarship" system which enable the doctoral course students to received a scholarship that is equivalent to the amount of registration fee (i.e. 282,000 yen), which they are required to pay during the enrollment. Please note that, the registration fee is waived for those who subsequently continue their studies from Mater's course to the Doctoral course in our faculty, therefore, it is not necessary to apply for this scholarship. The details of application for the special scholarship will be given during the enrollment procedure.
Japanese Language Course
There is no faculty/department for Japanese Language learning at Gifu University and if you wish to improve your Japanese language skill in preparation for the admissions (especially for undergraduate program) to Gifu University, you are advised to study at an appropriate Japanese language school in your country or in Japan.
However, our university's International Student Center does offer Japanese language courses, i.e. Intensive Course and Standard Course, to regular international students. Only international students with College Student visa are eligible to attend those courses, while their family members (with "Family Dependant" visa) as well as foreign researchers (with "Culture Activity" visa) are not able to attend those courses.
The application for entering the Japanese language course has to be made, with the permission from your academic supervisor, through the faculty's Student Affairs division to the International Student Center. The application is normally open in September and March, and all applicants are required to sit for the placement test on the course orientation day.

Tutor System
In Gifu University, tutors (normally a Japanese graduate student) are arranged for international students during the first year of their study. Besides giving personal tuition lessons, the tutors also provide various supports to international students both in campus and daily life. Since the tutor is someone who is senior to you in the same department (for undergraduates) or same laboratory (for graduate students), he/she is also able to guide you in your lab work / research experiment.
Techno Fair
Our faculty has been holding a Techno Fair annually since 2005 in order to make known our education and research activities to the public and prospective students as well as to corporate researchers and engineers. Through this event, we hope to develop and enhance partnerships between our faculty and local sectors. We also sincerely wish that vital paths to the future will be blazed.
The 2008 Techno Fair, which was our fourth fair in the series, was held at our faculty's buildings in the campus on November 3 and 4, 2008, in conjunction with the Gifu University Festival (
Gidaisai) . Techno Fair 2008 was a great success and it managed to attract a total of 601 visitors, including 225 students, 285 researchers and engineers, and 91 others. The details such as outline of the presentations can be found in the following link:
2008 Techno Fair (In Japanese)
In summary, the first day events were mainly planned for general visitors and prospective students where 2 Keynote Lectures, 3 Student Presentations (on their extra-curricular activities), 5 Experiment Classes, 25 Open Laboratories, and 72 Poster presentations were carried out. On the second day of the program, we offered 19 Work-in-Progress Reports of our faculty members, focused mainly on research topics that are of interest to corporate researchers and engineers.
In 2009, the Techno Fair, which was originally initiated by our faculty, expanded and its name was changed to Gifu University Fair, where all faculties in our university joint efforts in promoting our research and education activities to the society, especially local civilians. This 2-day event attracted 1,307 student and public visitors, and 339 members of corporate sectors.
