Departments
The faculty aims at educating and cultivating humane and creative engineers with various abilities from skillful specialists in their chosen fields to integrated experts. The faculty are focuses on developing the appreciation of society, nature and culture, leading to a broader sensitivity, a sound mind and high morality, as well as mastering the basic and systematic sciences required by a professional engineer.
Department of Civil Engineering
The objectives of civil engineering are to realize sustainable, safe and comfortable environments for human life. For these purposes, various infrastructures as well as facilities for disaster mitigation need to be constructed and maintained. In the department of Civil Engineering at Gifu University, education and research on roads, railways, rivers, ports, harbors, water facilities, dams and dikes etc. are carried out both in theory and in applications.
Department of Mechanical and Systems Engineering
In the Department of Mechanical and Systems Engineering, students are encouraged to study basic scientific principles and applied technology of mechanical engineering including strength of materials, fluids, heat, dynamics of machinery, and machining, in order to cultivate the elementary knowledge of modern technologies. Our goal is to develop engineers who can contribute to the development and production of advanced machinery.
Department of Chemistry
Our department intends to educate undergraduate students on the essential and fundamental concepts in the spectrum of chemistry-related sciences. It has also conducted studies and research projects on design, syntheses, and evaluation of a wide variety of materials. The further goal of our department is to foster creative people with a rich sense of humanity in scientific fields.
Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering
Education research is at the point of presenting electronics, electrical and electronic material and information systems in response to problems such as the environment, energy and information technology.
Department of Biomolecular Science
Present-day society is confronted by many technical issues, which industry, academia and government cooperation are actively addressing through the use of chemical and biological research. Advances in protein architecture, structure-based drug design, biogenetics, environmental integrity, system biology, medical engineering are all based in biomolecular science. The Department of Biomolecular Science in Gifu University offers students a wide variety of programs for basic knowledge and fundamental skill in chemistry and biology as well as interdisciplinary courses in bioscience and biotechnology. Our goal is to respond to the expectation of industrial world in the 21th century.
Department of Information Science
The educational mission of our department is to prepare students to become professional computer engineers who will solve difficult challenges and create new information technologies for daily life and social system by developing multimedia processing and ubiquitous information systems, sophisticated human interfaces, and intelligent robots.
Department of Materials Science and Technology
Beside investigating the properties of materials, the education and research about the new advanced materials will be highlighted. This includes the familiarization of composition and synthesis, structural investigation, function evaluation and processes. The education and research on environment matched materials such as ceramics, organic materials, molecular composites, and electronic materials will be a priority.
Department of Human and Information Systems
Human and information systems engineering is a new field dedicated to building Intelligent-Mechanical-Information systems non-intrusive to humans and the environment. This department conducts education and research into merging information, control, measurement, robotics, and energy conversion technologies centered on living organisms information and human support engineering. This focus is to develop engineers who are concerned with human nature as well as creative approach to problem solving.
Department of Mathematical and Design Engineering
Our basic objective provides a new and unified approach to practical engineering and related problems, for example, the next generation of functional devices, optimum software and the new system enginerring, with basic methodologies such as mathematics and mathematical sciences. This department develops scientists and engineers to resolve various problems based on sound engineering principles and creativity.
