Applicants are required to choose one of the major chairs in their desired research field in making Application for Admission. |

The student is assigned one chief academic advisor and two assistant academic advisors who will help him/her to define a topic and guide him/her in the development of research. |

The student works toward the Doctor's Degree mainly at the University to which his/her chief academic advisor is attached, but makes use of the facilities available in all four cooperating universities. |

The UGSVS awards the Degree of Doctor of Veterinary Sciences for successful completion of the approved graduate course and research. The Doctor's Degree requires the student to earn more than thirty credits (more than thirty semester hours) of required subjects, to present an original thesis under due supervision by designated academic advisors, and to pass examinations for the degree. |

The term of completion of the graduate course is, as a rule, four years, but for a student with excellent grades it may be shortened to three years. |
